VOV.VN - Vietnamese GDP growth is projected to surge by 7% this year, thereby taking the lead among the group of five emerging markets in Southeast Asia (ASEAN-5), according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF)'s World Economic Outlook Report for October.

Foreign newspapers have highlighted Vietnam’s impressive success after the World Bank (WB) forecast that its economy will lead Asia with a growth rate of 7.2% this year, up from the previous forecast of 5.3% in April.

Vietnam’s GDP growth in 2022 and 2023 will be among the highest in Southeast Asia as shown in many international organisations’ forecasts and assessments on the Vietnamese economic outlook.

Vietnam’s GDP growth will reach 8% this year in the base-case scenario, provided that there will be no upheavals in the market but favourable external factors for the economy during the remaining months of the year, according to Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong.

The first half of this year saw a swift economic rebound as Vietnam’s pandemic restrictions eased following the adoption of a living-with-COVID strategy and a robust vaccination drive, according to an article published on the website of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), imf.org.

Vietnam is expected to come out second only to the Philippines in terms of projected GDP for 2022 and on top for 2023, according to a recent Quarterly Update of the ASEAN +3 Regional Economic Outlook.

One-fifth of Indian companies that have operations in Southeast Asia or expect to do so have plans to expand their businesses in Vietnam in the next two years.

Vietnam is poised to emerge strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic and place itself firmly on the radar of foreign investors, buoyed by rapid industrialisation and a fast-growing middle-class, experts told AsianInvestor which focuses on the region’s investment industry.
