The Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), and Cooperativeve Vereniging SNB - React U.A (React) in Asia-Pacific, an anti-counterfeiting network, on December 8 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to fight counterfeiting and infringements of intellectual property (IP) rights.

Former Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong has had his sentence reduced to three years from four years for showing “lack of responsibility causing serious consequences” over the trading of counterfeit medicine labelled as Health 2000 Canada.

The High-Level People’s Court in Hanoi on September 29 held an appeal trial over the trading of counterfeit medicine labelled as Health 2000 Canada involving former Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong.

Former Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong was given four years in jail in the first-instance trial of the case relating to the trading of counterfeit medicine labelled as Health 2000 Canada, lack of responsibilities causing serious consequences, and abuse of power while on duty.

A first-instance trial will start on May 12 on former Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong and 13 other defendants involved in the case relating to the trading of counterfeit medicines, lack of responsibilities causing serious consequences; and the abuse of positions and power while on duty.

Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong and 13 others are facing charges for their role in counterfeit cancer medicines labelled as Health 2000 Canada, according the new indictment issued by the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

Vietnamese supporting industry enterprises for the electronics industry participate in the value chain, however, most of them only provide simple products with low technology and value.

The General Department of Market Surveillance under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the market management force would focus on fighting counterfeit goods, goods that infringe intellectual property rights and goods of unknown origin on both traditional trade and digital platforms from April 1 to the end of December 2025.

The US Trade Representative (USTR) office has blacklisted Vietnam's well-known markets in its 2020 review, for reasons of counterfeiting goods. Dong Xuan Market in Hanoi and Ben Thanh Market in HCM City have been named on the USTR blacklist.

The General Department for Market Surveillance has shown determination in the fight against counterfeit goods and trade fraud products in e-commerce channels.
