VOV.VN - The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has issued a directive to strengthen measures for promoting rice production and exports in the new context, while ensuring domestic market stability and food security.

Vietnam plans to export approximately 7 million tonnes of rice in 2026, down from 8 million tonnes last year, with a gradual reduction to just 4 million tonnes by 2030, according to Do Ha Nam, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

Vietnam had exported more than 7 million tonnes of rice as of October 15, but domestic paddy and rice prices have fallen amid slower purchases by exporters, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

Vietnam’s rice exports are projected to reach at least 8 million tonnes in 2025, positioning the country as the world’s second-largest exporter for the first time, according to Do Ha Nam, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

With positive results recorded so far, Vietnam can exceed its target of 7.6 million tonnes in rice export volume set for 2024, Nguyen Ngoc Nam, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association, said at a conference in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on April 26.

Indonesia’s selection of Vietnam as a major source for its rice purchases has further solidified the position and quality of Vietnamese rice, said the Vietnamese Trade Office in Indonesia following a statement from an Indonesian official that Indonesia will import 1.5 million tonnes of rice from Vietnam and Thailand.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has announced the list of 210 businesses that are eligible to export rice.
