Viettel FC trounce Kaya FC 5-0 in AFC Champions League 2021
VOV.VN - As the Vietnamese representative competing in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League 2021, V.League 1 champions Viettel FC climbed to second position in Group F after recording a resounding 5-0 win over Kaya FC of the Philippines on June 29 in Thailand.
In the first attack of the game, Nguyen Hoang Duc successfully opened the scoring in the second minute.
Five minutes later, Caique Venancio received a pass from Nguyen Trong Hoang and scored the second goal of the game for the Vietnamese side.
The Viettel FC players maintained their domination throughout the game, with Bui Tien Dung increasing the score line to 3-0 just three minutes into the second half.
The current V.League 1 champions scored two more goals in the 61st and 65th minutes thanks to Caique Venancio and Vu Minh Tuan.
After two matches played in Group F, Viettel FC are second, level with BG Pathum United FC of Thailand on three points, although the Vietnamese team have a higher goal difference.
Ulsan Hyun FC of the Republic of Korea top Group F with six points, whilst Kaya FC of the Philippines are bottom of the group with no point.
Moving forward, Viettel FC will face Thai champions BG Pathum United FC at 9 p.m. on July 2 (Hanoi time).
The tournament marks Viettel FC’s debut in a continental competition and they became the first Vietnamese football club since Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) FC to record a victory in the AFC Champions League.
Previously, HAGL beat Indonesian rivals PSM 5-1 in their opening match at the 2004 version of the AFC Champions League.
