Vietnam’s teams rank seventh at Chess Olympiad

Vietnam’s teams rank 7th after the 11th round of the 2018 Chess Olympiad concluded in Batumi, Georgia on October 6.

Vietnam’s male team, with an average Elo rating of 2576, beat the Philippines 3-1.

Grandmaster Le Quang Liem defeated Sadorra Julio Catalino at table 1.

Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son won over Gomez John Paul at table 2. He also won two solo gold medals for himself.

The grandmaster, from the central province of Kien Giang, had 7 wins and 3 draws after 10 rounds.

Young talent Nguyen Anh Khoi beat Pascua Haridas at table 4, while Tran Tuan Minh lost to Garcia Jan Emmanuel at table 3.

After 11 rounds, Vietnam racked up 6 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss. Seventh is the best rank the team has achieved until now.

The female team ranked 15th after drawing to Azerbaijan, ranked 11th, 2-2.

They got 6 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses.

Mainland China topped the table for both men and women.
