Vietnam thrash Timor-Leste 10-0, close in on ASEAN U17 semifinals
VOV.VN - Vietnam delivered a dominant performance to defeat Timor-Leste 10-0 in their second Group A match at the 2026 ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship on April 16, strengthening their chance of advancing to the semifinals.
Entering the match with confidence following a 4-0 victory over Malaysia in the opening game, Vietnam quickly took control and opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Nguyen Luc. The early goal set the tone for a one-sided contest, with Vietnam maintaining relentless pressure throughout.
By the 20th minute, the lead was doubled after Dai Nhan capitalised on a defensive lapse, before Ngoc Son made it 3-0 just four minutes later with a precise right-footed finish. Nguyen Luc completed his brace in the 31st minute from a direct free kick, giving Vietnam a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw no let-up in intensity. Substitute Tran Tri Dung extended the lead in the 61st minute, while a quick succession of goals shortly after pushed the scoreline to 7-0.
Van Duong was among the standout performers, contributing a hat-trick and an assist, as Vietnam continued to dominate offensively. Nguyen Luc also completed his hat-trick late in the match, sealing an emphatic 10-0 victory.
With two consecutive wins and a superior goal difference, Vietnam now hold a strong advantage in the race for the top spot in Group A.
They will face hosts Indonesia in their final group-stage match on April 19, in what is expected to be a decisive clash for group leadership and a place in the semifinals.
