Vietnam drawn into ‘group of death’ at ASEAN U17 Championship 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s U17 team have been placed in the “group of death” at the ASEAN U-17 Boys' Championship 2026, scheduled to take place in Indonesia in April 2026.
The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) conducted the official draw on March 6. Vietnam were drawn into Group A alongside hosts Indonesia, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste, forming one of the tournament’s most demanding groups.
Under tournament regulations, 12 teams are divided into three groups. The three group winners and the best second-placed team will advance to the semi-finals, making competition in each group particularly intense.
Group B features Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines, while Group C includes Australia, Cambodia, Singapore, and Brunei.
Matches are scheduled to take place in East Java, Indonesia, from April 11 to April 23. The specific stadiums hosting the tournament will be announced later.
At the most recent edition in 2024, Australia won the title after defeating Thailand in a penalty shootout in the final.
The ASEAN U17 Championship 2026 is also considered an important preparation event for several teams, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Australia, ahead of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026, which will be held in Saudi Arabia in May 2026.
