Vietnam stun Malaysia 4–0 in ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship opener

VOV.VN - Vietnam made a dominant start to their Group A campaign at the 2026 ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship, defeating Malaysia 4–0 at Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium in Indonesia, on April 13.

Entering the game, Vietnamese players, under head coach Cristiano Roland, pushed high up the pitch, applying early pressure and controlling possession.

In the 11th minute, Van Duong broke through on goal after winning a duel but failed to beat the Malaysian goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

Just a minute later, Vietnam capitalised on a corner from the right flank as Sy Bach reacted quickest to open the scoring.

Vietnam doubled their lead in the 27th minute following a well-worked team move. Quy Vuong delivered a cut-back pass, and after a clever touch by Trong Nhan, Sy Bach finished from close range to make it 2–0.

The third goal came in the 38th minute when Van Duong converted from close range after a precise cross by Quy Vuong, giving Vietnam a commanding 3–0 lead heading into halftime.

Vietnam maintained their dominance in the second half. In the 56th minute, Manh Cuong finished quickly inside the box from Anh Hao’s assist to seal a 4–0 victory.

With this convincing win, Vietnam move to the top of Group A with three points, gaining an early advantage in the race for a semifinal spot.

They will next face Timor-Leste on April 16 at 15:30, before taking on hosts Indonesia on April 19 at 19:30.
