Vietnam target strong run at AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s U20 women’s national team on March 29 departed for Thailand to compete in the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026, marking the start of their campaign at the continental tournament.

The team left from Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and arrived in Bangkok later the same day. After settling into their accommodation, head coach Okiyama Masahiko and his players quickly resumed training to finalise preparations ahead of the tournament.

Prior to departure, the coaching staff confirmed the official 23-player squad. The lineup features a balanced mix of experienced players with international exposure and promising young talents, expected to provide both stability and competitiveness at this year’s competition.

The AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 will take place in Thailand from April 1 to 18, bringing together 12 of the region’s top teams. The teams are divided into three groups, competing in a round-robin format to determine those advancing to the knockout stage.

Vietnam have been drawn in a challenging group alongside China, Thailand and Bangladesh. The group is widely considered competitive, requiring consistent performance and thorough preparation from the Vietnamese side.

According to the schedule, Vietnam will play China in their opening match on April 1. The fixture will be a tough test but also an important opportunity for the young squad to gain experience and demonstrate their capabilities on the continental stage.

The team’s objective is not only to deliver strong performances but also to compete for a place in the top four, which would secure qualification for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2026. With careful preparation and strong determination, Vietnam are anticipated to make a positive impression at the tournament.
