Vietnam ready for U17 Championship semi-final clash with Australia

VOV.VN - Vietnam have made thorough preparations ahead of their highly anticipated semi-final clash with Australia at the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Boys’ Championship, set to take place in Indonesia on April 22, according to head coach Cristiano Roland.

Vietnam are well-prepared both tactically and mentally for a major test against defending champions Australia on April 22, Roland said at a pre-match press conference on April 21.

The Brazilian coach noted that Australia possess a strong squad with extensive international exposure, as well as solid physicality and tactical discipline. Nevertheless, Vietnam have carefully studied their opponents and developed strategies to neutralise key strengths while maximising their own performance.

Roland emphasised that his players are in high spirits and confident heading into the match, viewing it as an opportunity to demonstrate their progress throughout the tournament.

Midfielder Duy Khang, speaking on behalf of the team, said Vietnam have drawn valuable lessons from the group stage and would strictly adhere to the coaching staff’s tactical plans. The players aim to compete with maximum determination and deliver a positive result for supporters.

On the other side, Australia head coach Carl Veart expressed strong respect for Vietnam, highlighting their technical ability and quick transitions. He stressed the need for his players to remain fully focused throughout the match and minimise errors to secure a place in the final.

Australia enter the semi-final with an impressive record, having won all their matches without conceding a goal and scoring the most goals in the tournament. However, Veart acknowledged that Vietnam represent their toughest challenge so far and predicted a high-quality, competitive encounter.

With both teams in strong form and yet to concede, the match is expected to be not only a battle for a place in the final but also a showcase of the rising standards of youth football in Southeast Asia.
