Vietnam face tough challenge ahead of World Cup qualifier
VOV.VN - With only three days to go before the upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Oman, head coach Park Hang Seo is suffering a selection headache following another Vietnamese midfielder testing positive for COVID-19.
This comes as Chau Ngoc Quang, who has been called up to the national team for the first time, was infected with the virus on March 20. He will therefore definitely miss the clash against Oman which is scheduled to take place at My Dinh National Stadium on March 24.
Before Quang, six other players also contracted COVID-19 and have been forced to enter quarantine. They include Tuan Manh, Van Hoang, Dao Van Nam, Hong Duy, Xuan Truong, and Hai Huy.
Furthermore, Bui Tien Dung and Phan Van Duc are unable to feature in the upcoming match due to injuries, much to the dismay of the Vietnam Football Federation and coach Park.
With a series of players missing, coach Park may have to make some additions to the current team.
The Vietnamese players are currently training in Hanoi for a home match against Oman on March 24, followed by an away match against Japan which will be played at the Saitama Stadium on March 29.
