Vietnam eye victory over Indonesia in ASEAN U19 Women semi-final
VOV.VN - After an impressive performance in the group stage of the 2025 ASEAN U19 Women’s Championship in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s U19 women’s team are determined to overpower Indonesia in the semi-final on June 16 and secure a place in the final.

Coach Okiyama Masahiko’s squad delivered a convincing performance in the group stage, winning all three matches against Myanmar, Timor-Leste, and Laos, scoring 16 goals without conceding any. Vietnam’s U19 women’s team have demonstrated thorough preparations and consistent form heading into the knockout stage. The June 16 semi-final clash with Indonesia promises to be a true test of their championship ambitions.
“After three matches, we’ve executed our tactical plans well and scored 16 goals. However, our finishing efficiency still needs improvement. In today’s training session, we continue to sharpen our ability to convert chances,” coach Masahiko shared at a press briefing on June 15.
The Japanese tactician also lauded their semi-final opponents, saying Indonesia possess superior physical strength, solid fitness, and a clear playing style that will present a real challenge for Vietnam in the semi-final.
However, he reaffirmed the team’s consistent goal from the start of the tournament that is entering the final and clinching the tournament’s trophy.
“Our goal remains unchanged. The whole team are now focused on the semi-final. We will do our best to win the championship,” said Masahiko.
On the other side, Indonesia U19 women’s head coach Akira Higashiyama acknowledged Vietnam’s strength but expressed strong determination.
“Vietnam are a very strong team. We will play with our highest spirit and thorough preparation. After this tournament, some players from our squad will be promoted to the national team in preparation for the Asian qualifiers,” Higashiyama stated.
The other semi-final between Thailand and Myanmar also promises to be an exciting clash, as the two sides are well-acquainted from previous encounters.
Thailand’s head coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian noted Myanmar have clearly improved in recent times and Thailand would play with a relaxed mindset to allow the players to showcase their abilities. However, he said, Thailand are confident enough to win and reach the final.
On Myanmar’s side, head coach Thet Thet Win expressed belief in his team’s fighting spirit and tactical identity. “Thailand are a strong team, but Myanmar have their own playing style and solid spirit. We will step onto the pitch with confidence and determination to win,” he said.
Thailand are scheduled to play Myanmar at 15:00, while Vietnam will play Indonesia at 18:30. Both matches will take place at Thong Nhat Stadium, Ho Chi Minh City on June 16.
