Vietnamese players head for AFF U19 Boys Championship 2024
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national U19 football team departed for Indonesia from Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on July 16 to compete in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U19 Boys Championship 2024 which starts in two days.
Head coach Hua Hien Vinh has chosen to bring a squad of 23 players after removing defender Nguyen Manh Hung, striker Nguyen Anh Tuan, and Czech-based midfielder Ho Huu Hung.
The AFF U19 Boys Championship is scheduled to take place in Indonesia from July 17 to July 29. Vietnam have been drawn in Group B and will play their opening match against Myanmar on July 18, followed by a fixture against Australia on July 21 before ending the group stage with a game against Laos on July 24.
Australia and Laos are considered two strong rivals in Group B as Australia previously won the championship title in 2020 and Laos were finished with the runner-up title in 2022.
The ASEAN tournament this year consists of 12 teams which are divided into three groups.
The top three teams and the best second-placed team will progress to the semi-final. Following this, the two winning teams in the semi-finals will vie for the championship title, whilst the losers from the semi-finals will compete in a match to determine the third-placed team.
