Vietnam claim third straight victory at FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship

VOV.VN - Vietnam continued their impressive run on August 9, defeating Canada to notch their third consecutive win and edge closer to securing a berth in the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship.

After back-to-back triumphs over Indonesia and Serbia in the previous two matches, Vietnam faced Canada, a team still seeking their first win of the tournament.

Though Canada posed a challenging matchup for head coach Nguyen Trong Linh and his players, the two sides were no strangers. Less than a month ago, at the Future Star friendly tournament in Shanghai, Vietnam had beaten Canada 3–0. That previous encounter gave Vietnam’s coaching staff valuable insight into their opponents’ playing style, roster, and tactics, allowing them to prepare an effective strategy.

The opening set saw both sides trade points evenly, tied at 6–6, 9–9, and 13–13, before Vietnam pulled away with a three-point surge to lead 17–14, eventually taking the set 25–19.

The second set was equally tight, with ties at 11–11, 14–14, 19–19, and 23–23. Canada held their nerve in the final moments to win 26–24, leveling the match at 1–1.

In the third set, Canada stayed competitive early on at 8–8, but Vietnam responded with a five-point burst to lead 13–8 and maintained control to win 25–19, regaining a 2–1 advantage.

The fourth set was all Vietnam, as they overpowered Canada with sharp attacks and a rock-solid defence, closing it out 25–5 in commanding fashion.

This 3–1 win gives Vietnam their third straight victory, putting them on the brink of advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship.
