Vietnam beat Philippines, take AVC Nations Cup trophy
VOV.VN - Opposite hitter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen delivered a standout performance on June 14 evening, leading the Vietnam women’s volleyball team to a commanding 3-0 victory over the Philippines and securing the championship title at the 2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup.

In the decisive match, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet fielded Vietnam’s strongest lineup, featuring Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Nguyen Thi Uyen, and Khanh Dang.
Opposite hitter Bich Tuyen showcased her outstanding skills. With her explosive jumping ability and seamless coordination with setter Lam Oanh, she unleashed a barrage of high-powered spikes that tore through the Philippines’ blocking line, scoring crucial points for the Vietnamese team.
After a commanding 25-15 win in the first set, hosts Vietnam faced fierce resistance from Philippine opponents in the second set. However, Bich Tuyen, Thanh Thuy, and their teammates regrouped at the right moment and surged ahead to claim a 25-17 victory.
The Philippine players put up a spirited fight in the third set, but Bich Tuyen continued to demonstrate her superior skills, frequently unleashing powerful “rocket-like” spikes to score for Vietnam.
As expected, there was no upset in the third set, with coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s squad securing a 25-14 win. This outcome came as no surprise, given that Vietnam have maintained a perfect record against the Philippines in all previous encounters.
In addition to winning the title, the Vietnamese team secured a spot in the final round of the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Earlier the same day, Chinese Taipei defeated Kazakhstan 3-1 to claim third place.
Having successfully defended their AVC Nations Cup for the third time, the Vietnamese women’s team stay firm in the top 30 of the FIVB World Rankings. This triumph also provides a strong boost of motivation for coach Tuan Kiet and his players as they look ahead to the FIVB World Championship in August and the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand later this year.
