First defeat for Vietnam at FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship

VOV.VN - The Vietnam U21 women’s volleyball team experienced their first loss on August 11 at the ongoing 2025 FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship in Indonesia, falling 3-1 to Argentina in their fourth Group A match.

Fortunately, this defeat will not affect Vietnam’s chances of advancing to the next round. Having secured wins against Indonesia, Serbia, and Canada earlier, the team had already guaranteed their progression.

In the match against world No. 7 Argentina, Vietnam started strongly thanks to outstanding outside hitter Dang Thi Hong, who scored points from various positions, helping Vietnam claim the first set 25-10.

However, Argentina bounced back in the second set, taking it 25-20. The South American side then leveraged their height advantage to dominate the third set, winning 25-15.

In the fourth set, a series of individual errors from the Vietnamese players allowed Argentina to pull away and close out the match with a 25-15 set victory. Looking ahead, Vietnam will face Puerto Rico in their final group stage match on August 12.
