Truong Vinh Hien claims PPA Asia Kuala Lumpur Open 2026 title
VOV.VN - The PPA Asia Kuala Lumpur Open 2026 concluded on May 17 with Vietnamese players delivering standout performances, highlighted by Truong Vinh Hien’s dominant victory in the men’s singles final.
In the championship match, Vinh Hien faced Japan’s Nasa Hatakeyama. Considered the stronger contender, the Vietnamese player quickly took control of the match with his solid gameplay and versatile shot placement.
Right from the opening set, Vinh Hien displayed clear superiority, repeatedly scoring points through sharp attacking plays to secure a commanding 11-2 victory.
Hatakeyama showed greater resistance in the second set and kept pace during the early rallies. However, Vinh Hien maintained his composure and consistency, successfully neutralising the Japanese player’s attacks.
The Vietnamese star also capitalised on Hatakeyama’s rushed decisions, forcing longer rallies and gradually building momentum.
A strong scoring run helped Vinh Hien surge to a 6-0 lead before he closed out the set 11-3. Hatakeyama’s late efforts proved insufficient as unforced errors continued to cost him at crucial moments.
With a convincing performance throughout the tournament and without dropping a single set, Truong Vinh Hien captured his first-ever men’s singles title at a PPA Tour Asia event.
In other competitions, overseas Vietnamese player Alix Truong also made a strong impression by reaching two finals.
In the women’s doubles, Alix Truong and partner Chao Yi Wang (Chinese Taipei) were unable to upset the pairing of Long Yufei (China) and Ting Chieh Wei (Chinese Taipei), losing in straight sets 5-11 and 2-11.
However, Alix Truong quickly bounced back in the mixed doubles competition. Teaming up with Tama Shimabukuro (USA), she delivered an impressive performance against Chao Yi Wang and Len Yang (China).
After three sets, Alix Truong and Shimabukuro secured a 2-1 victory with scores of 11-5, 3-11 and 11-2 to claim the mixed doubles title, capping off a successful tournament for Vietnamese pickleball in Malaysia.
