Hoang Nam, Vinh Hien break into PPA Tour top 20
VOV.VN - Vietnamese players Ly Hoang Nam and Truong Vinh Hien have made a historic breakthrough by both entering the top 20 of the men’s singles rankings on the PPA Tour, marking a significant step forward for pickleball in Vietnam.
Their rise follows standout performances at the recent PPA Asia 1000 – MB Hanoi Cup 2026, where both players recorded impressive wins against some of the world’s top-ranked opponents. As of April 7, they have officially secured spots among the top 20 in the men’s singles rankings of the PPA Tour, one of the world’s leading professional pickleball circuits.
Ly Hoang Nam is currently ranked 14th in the world with 3,100 points, closing in on 13th place held by pickleball star Ben Johns (USA). Meanwhile, Truong Vinh Hien has also made a strong impression, climbing to 17th place with 2,500 points.
On April 4, Ly Hoang Nam advanced to the final after a dominant win over Dylan Frazier (USA), setting up an all-Vietnamese showdown against Truong Vinh Hien. Earlier, Hien stunned world No.2 Federico Staksrud (Argentina) in the semifinals, defeating the top seed 2-1 in one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.
The all-Vietnam final is widely seen as a landmark moment for the sport in Vietnam, highlighting the players’ rapid progress and their ability to compete on equal footing with leading names from the US and Europe.
