Thuy Linh misses out on championship title at Yonex German Open
VOV.VN - Vietnamese badminton star Nguyen Thuy Linh on March 2 fell short against higher-ranked Yeo Jia Min in the final of the 2025 Yonex German Open, marking her second consecutive runner-up finish at the tournament.

Thuy Linh had previously had an impressive run, defeating strong opponents like Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, the 2013 world champion, and second seed Kim Ga-eun of the Republic of Korea to reach the final.
Notably, she pulled off a stunning 2-0 victory against Japan’s Riko Gunji in the semifinals, despite trailing in both sets.
In the final, Thuy Linh faced Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min, an opponent she had met three times before, with Yeo holding a 2-1 advantage. Their most recent encounter at the India Open earlier this year ended in a narrow defeat for Thuy Linh in three sets.
At the German Open final, the Vietnamese No.1 player struggled early, quickly falling behind 2-9 after just 10 minutes. Yeo’s deep shuttle placements and powerful smashes made it difficult for Thuy Linh to gain control. Despite efforts to close the gap, she trailed 7-11 at the mid-game interval and eventually lost the first set 16-21.
In the second set, Thuy Linh attempted to use more precise shots but was constantly forced into a defensive position. Yeo displayed strong mental composure and maintained the upper hand, leading 20-16 in the latter half of the set. Though Thuy Linh saved one match point, she ultimately fell 17-21, losing 0-2 in just 41 minutes.
Although she couldn’t secure the title, finishing as the runner-up at this BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament earned her 5,950 ranking points and a prize of US$9,120.
