Thirteen teams set to compete in Asian Women's U23 Volleyball Championship
VOV.VN - The third version of the Asian Women's U23 Volleyball Championship is scheduled to take place in Hanoi between July 13 and 21.
The announcement was made by the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam during a press conference held in Hanoi on July 4.
Tran Duc Phan, deputy head of the Vietnam Sports Administration, said the tournament provides a chance to gather young talent from across Asia and compete at a high level. The championship will allow volleyballers of all nations to enjoy exchanges, sharpen their skills, and boost friendship among them.
The tournament will take place in Gia Lam district’s culture, information and sports centre and in Tay Ho district’s sports competition hall in Hanoi.
Thirteen U23 teams from Australia, China, Hong Kong (China), India, Kazakhstan, Macau, the Maldives, New Zealand, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), Sri Lanka, Thailand, and host nation Vietnam will be competing at the tournament.
The teams will play in a one-round format during the qualifying round. Teams that make it to the semi-finals and final will play knock-out matches.
Through the tournament Vietnamese volleyballers are expected to gain experience ahead of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which will take place in the Philippines later in the year.
