Nhi Yen bags bronze for Vietnam at 2025 Asian Athletics Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnamese athlete Tran Thi Nhi Yen on May 28 clinched a bronze medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships which is currently taking place in the Republic of Korea.

Competing in the women’s 100m sprint, Nhi Yen faced fierce competition from top sprinters across Asia. With an impressive time of 11.47 seconds, she finished third, behind Liang Xiaojing from China and Shanti Pereira from Singapore.
This is Vietnam’s first medal at this year’s championship, providing a morale boost for the national athletics team in the upcoming events.
Notably, her bronze medal came after several Vietnamese athletes narrowly missed out on podium finishes in earlier events two days ago. Among them were Nguyen Thi Oanh in the women’s 1,500m, Nguyen Thi Ngoc in the women’s 400m, Nguyen Thi Huong and Tran Thi Loan in the women’s triple jump, and Luong Duc Phuoc in the men’s 1,500m.
According to experts, not only Vietnam but also other national teams have brought their strongest squads and best preparations to the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships. The tournament serves as an important opportunity for countries to review their line-ups and evaluate performance, aiming for higher-level competitions such as the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD) and the 2028 Olympic qualifiers.
In addition to technical goals, the tournament also provides a valuable opportunity for the coaching team to observe and gather insights on regional competitors, particularly those in Southeast Asia, who are also intensively preparing for the 33rd SEA Games late this year.
The 2025 Asian Athletics Championships is taking place in Incheon, the RoK, from May 27 to June 1, featuring over 600 athletes from 40 countries and territories.
