Over 3,500 athletes compete at Da Nang triathlon competition
VOV.VN - The premier sporting event IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang 2025 officially kicked off May 9 in the central city of Da Nang, drawing over 3,500 athletes from more than 70 countries and territories.
This year's competition also drew the participation of more than 160 All-World Athletes (AWA), highlighting its international prestige and appeal to the world’s elite athletes.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held on May 9 in Da Nang, Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee, noted that the central city is proudly celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Liberation Day this year. This milestone marks Da Nang’s remarkable transformation from a small urban area into a leading economic, cultural, and sporting hub in the central and Central Highlands regions, reaffirming its position on both the national and international stage.
Moreover, IRONMAN 70.3 Da Nang has played a key role in promoting the spirit of perseverance, the desire to conquer, and global connectivity - core values that show the identity of the Da Nang people.
According to the organising board, for the first time, Mixed Reality (MR) technology will be integrated into a triathlon in Vietnam through a pioneering collaboration with technology company tagSpace.
This year’s event will see athletes take on a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike ride, and a 21.1km run along Da Nang’s scenic coastline.
IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam also includes the SUNRISE SPRINT Vietnam, a shorter-distance triathlon consisting of a 750m swim, 20km of cycling, and a 5km run.
The three-day competition offers 30 qualifying slots for the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Marbella, Spain, scheduled for November.
