Nguyen Thuy Linh exits Orleans Masters 2026 after quarterfinal loss
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh on March 20 bowed out in the quarterfinals of the Orleans Masters 2026 in France following a straight-sets defeat to Japan’s former world No. 1 Nozomi Okuhara.
In the opening game, Okuhara quickly took charge, building a six-point lead early on. Thuy Linh responded strongly with a five-point streak to narrow the gap to 10-11, setting up a tense exchange. However, Okuhara’s experience proved decisive as she closed out the game 21-18.
The second game saw Thuy Linh struggle to maintain her rhythm, with a series of unforced errors allowing Okuhara to pull away. The Japanese player capitalised efficiently, sealing a dominant 21-8 win to secure her place in the semifinals.
The result extends Thuy Linh’s winless record against Okuhara, having previously lost in straight sets at the 2023 BWF World Championships. Despite the defeat, reaching the quarterfinals remains a positive outcome for Vietnam’s No. 1 player. On her way to the last eight, she recorded victories over Sin Yan Lo of Hong Kong (China) and Hsiang Ti Lin of Chinese Taipei.
The Orleans Masters 2026, part of the BWF World Tour, is being held from March 17 to 22 at the Palais des Sports in Orléans, France. This year marks the 14th edition of the tournament, categorised as a Super 300 event with a total prize pool of US$240,000.
As the ninth stop on the 2026 BWF World Tour calendar, the tournament plays an important role in the global ranking system, offering valuable points for participating athletes under the standard Super 300 framework.
