Nguyen Thuy Linh storms into Orleans Masters 2026 quarterfinals
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s No.1 badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh advanced to the quarterfinals of the Orleans Masters 2026 after a convincing straight-sets victory over Lo Sin Yan Happy (Hong Kong – China).
After a challenging opening match against third seed Lin Hsiang Ti (Taiwan – China), Thuy Linh faced a more manageable opponent in the second round. The Vietnamese shuttler quickly took control of the match against the world No.75 from Hong Kong.
In the first game, Thuy Linh established an early lead at 7-3 and 11-5. With her sharp shot placement and excellent tempo control, she widened the gap to 19-10 before closing the game 21-12.
The second game followed a similar pattern, as Thuy Linh maintained her dominance with leads of 8-4, 12-8, and 15-11. She surged ahead to earn six match points and sealed the victory 21-14, completing a comfortable 2-0 win.
The match highlighted her superior control and tactical flexibility, especially compared to her tougher opening encounter.
In the quarterfinals, Thuy Linh will face a major challenge in Nozomi Okuhara, the tournament’s fifth seed and a former world No.1. The Japanese player secured her spot in the last eight after defeating Manami Suizu in straight sets.
The quarterfinal clash is scheduled for 16:00 on March 20. In their only previous meeting at the 2023 World Championships, Thuy Linh lost in straight games. However, with her current form and growing confidence, the Vietnamese star has a strong chance to cause an upset.
