Local footballers receive big bonus for participation in 2023 Women’s World Cup
VOV.VN - A total of 1,041 clubs from 48 FIFA member associations across all six confederations, including five clubs from Vietnam, are to be given a big bonus after releasing players to participate in the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Hanoi FC were the main provider of talented players for the Vietnamese women’s national team with eight members joining the national team squad in the most recent version of the Women's World Cup. They will be awarded more than US$125,000.
The elite octet which participated in the national team’s first-ever Women’s World Cup adventure were goalkeeper Dao Thi Kieu Oanh; defender Hoang Thi Loan; midfielders Tran Thi Hai Linh, Thai Thi Thao, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha, and Ngan Thi Van Su; and forwards Pham Hai Yen and Vu Thi Hoa.
Hanoi FC ranked ninth among a total of 1,041 clubs worldwide and took the top position in the Asian region in terms of benefiting from the programme.
Furthermore, six players from Ho Chi Minh City were part of the Golden Star Women Warriors during the tournament, with the southern club receiving a bonus of approximately US$100,000.
Ha Nam FC, Vietnam Mineral and Coal Group FC, and Thai Nguyen T&T also sent representatives to compete in the global tournament.
The funds have been made available via FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme (CBP), which was introduced for the first time ahead of the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France to recognise the fundamental role that clubs play in developing players.
The total amount committed to clubs that either released or trained the stars of women’s football rose to US$11.3 million for the 2023 edition of the Women’s World Cup, up from US$8.48 million four years earlier, according to world’s football governing body FIFA.
