Liem continues to shine at Summer Chess Classic
VOV.VN -Le Quang Liem, Vietnam’s top chess player, enjoyed an impressive performance as he defeated number two seed Jones Gawain of the UK in the ninth match of the ongoing Summer Chess Classic.

With nine matches played at the tournament Liem has earned 5.5 points and is currently leading the way at the top of the tournament’s rankings.
Xiong Jeffery of the United States is currently ranked second with five points.
In order to win the tournament outright, the Vietnamese chess player only needs a draw in his match against number one seed Shankland Sam of the UK, Elo rating 2717, in the final match which will take place in the evening of June 28.
Liem has enjoyed a string of impressive victories at the Summer Chess Classic which have helped him add 19 points to his Elo ranking. According to website 2700chess.com, Liem has returned to the list of international super grandmasters due to his current Elo rating of 2713.
