Door wide open for Liem to win Prague Masters
VOV.VN - Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem continued to maintain his place among the leading group en route to the title at the Prague Masters after the eighth match concluded on the night of June 16.
Despite enjoying the advantage of holding the white pawn, Liem had some difficulties playing against top seed Vidit Gujrathi of India, who later accepted a draw after 81 moves. As a result, he temporarily ranked second in the tournament with 5.5 points.
In the final match, the Ho Chi Minh City native (Elo 2,709) will face lower rated player Vallejo Pons of Spain (Elo 2,703) while Harikrishna of India, who had the same points with Liem, will play Anton Guijarro of Spain.
The Vietnamese grandmaster only need a draw to become a runner-up of the tournament.
A victory will secure Liem the overall title if Harikrishna loses in the next match.
