VOV.VN - Le Quang Liem, Vietnam’s highest ranked chess player, earned a hard-fought draw in the second match of the ongoing Prague Masters in the Czech Republic on June 9.

Facing off against number three seed Maghsoodloo Parham of Iran, Liem entered the match with caution. Despite holding the black pawn in the first game, Liem forced the Iranian player to implement defensive tactics before accepting a draw.
With two matches played Liem has earned a total of 1.5 points to top the rankings.
The Vietnamese GM is scheduled to next play against David Navara of the Czech player temporarily ranked second.
Originally established in 2017, the main purpose of the tournament is to offer the leading Czech players, national team contenders, and aspiring juniors a chance to play against the world's leading players on home soil.
Organisers hope that both the festival and its format will encourage players' fighting spirit, incite their will to win, boost their self-confidence, and provide motivation to improve chess in a healthy way.
