AFC fines VFF over crowd misconduct in Malaysia win
VOV.VN - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has imposed a financial penalty on the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) following crowd-related violations and stadium security shortcomings during Vietnam’s 3-1 victory over Malaysia in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
According to disciplinary information released on May 13, the VFF was fined a total of US$11,250 for incidents related to spectator misconduct and inadequate implementation of match security measures.
The AFC confirmed that pyrotechnics were used by spectators in the Vietnamese fan section during the match held on March 31.
The incident resulted in a financial sanction of US$6,250 against the VFF, in line with AFC regulations concerning crowd misconduct and the use of prohibited items inside stadiums.
The AFC also found that the match organisers failed to fully enforce required security arrangements.
According to the governing body, stadium authorities did not adequately control crowd access or ensure sufficient preventive measures, allowing prohibited items such as flares to enter the venue.
As a result, the VFF received an additional fine of US$5,000 for failure to implement adequate security measures during the match.
The total fine of US$11,250 must be paid within 30 days from the date of official notification issued by the AFC.
Striker Nguyen Xuan Son scored twice as Vietnam defeated Malaysia 3-1, securing top position in their qualifying group. The result confirmed Vietnam’s qualification for the final tournament of the AFC Asian Cup 2027, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia in January next year.
