Vietnam fine-tune tactics ahead of departure for AFC U17 Asian Cup
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s U17 national team held a final internal friendly against Hanoi Youth on April 29 to fine-tune technical and tactical elements ahead of their departure for the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup finals.
More than a routine exercise, the match served as a comprehensive evaluation for head coach Cristiano Roland and his coaching staff. Players across all positions were closely assessed in terms of form, fitness, and tactical execution, providing the basis for finalising the 23-player squad that will represent Vietnam on the Asian stage.
The team are scheduled to depart for Saudi Arabia on the evening of April 30 and arrive early the following day. The timeline is designed to help players acclimatise to the time difference, climate conditions, and pitch surfaces - key factors for a young squad preparing for a high-level international competition.
The 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup finals will take place from May 5 to May, featuring 16 of Asia’s top teams divided into four groups. The tournament is not only a prestigious continental competition but also a direct pathway to the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup.
Vietnam have been drawn into a challenging group alongside the Republic of Korea, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Yemen. Coach Cristiano Roland’s side will face Yemen on May 7, Republic of Korea on May 10, before concluding the group stage against the UAE on May 14.
