15-year-old golfer brings gold for Vietnam at SEA Games 32
VOV.VN - Le Khanh Hung, 15, has made history when he bagged home a gold medal in golf for Vietnam at the ongoing 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) on May 10.
Hung clinched the title in the men’s 18-hole class at SEA Games 32 which is getting underway in Cambodia. The young golfer finished with a score of -13 after three rounds played at Garden City Golf Club in Phnom Penh.
The 15-year-old player has become the youngest athlete of the Vietnamese sports delegation to ever win a gold medal at the SEA Games.
His teammate Nguyen Anh Minh recorded a score of -9 and will compete in a play-off round to vie for a silver medal in the men’s 18-hole class.
Hung entered the regional competition in good form having already won several major tournaments, including the Lexus Challenge 2023 several months ago and the Vietnam Match Play Championship last year.
Vietnam has four males and three females to compete in golf at SEA Games 32. Golf matches are taking place at the Garden City Golf Club in Phnom Penh from May 8 to 13.
At SEA Games 31, Anh Minh came sixth in the ranking, the best result among Vietnamese golfers at the regional sporting event. His score also helped Vietnam to finish fourth in the team rankings, the team’s best finish in the history of the competition.
