Vietnamese workers abroad remit home US$4 billion annually

VOV.VN - More than 700,000 Vietnamese workers are currently employed abroad under contract, earning stable incomes and sending significant remittances worth approximately US$3.5–4 billion per year to the homeland, said the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MOLISA).

A MOLISA report released on December 27 says the sending of workers abroad has recovered quickly, with an increase in both the quantity and quality, generating substantial foreign currency revenue.

Over the past four years, from 2021 to 2024, nearly 500,000 Vietnamese have gone to work abroad. In 2024 alone, about 150,000 Vietnamese workers went to work abroad, meeting 120% of the set target.

Last November saw 12,520 Vietnamese workers travel abroad to work under contract, with 6,466 going to Japan, 4,738 to Taiwan (China), 396 to the Republic of Korea, 205 to China, 139 to Singapore, 89 to Romania.

According to MOLISA, the recruitment, training, and sending of workers abroad under contract have been strengthened and managed tightly. Some localities have organized activities to support and advise workers returning home after completing their contract, helping them reintegrate into the domestic labour market.

in 2025, MOLISA aims to continue maintaining traditional overseas labour markets while also developing and expanding markets offering high incomes, suitable for the workers’ skills and qualifications.

Enterprises are advised to proactively prepare a workforce and enhance vocational and language training for workers before they go abroad, ensuring that all workers receive orientation education about the customs, traditions, and relevant laws of the host countries.

MOLISA will also intensify efforts to protect the legal rights and interests of workers and enterprises, as well as to support and advise returning workers in finding employment opportunities within the domestic market.
