Vietnam launches Humanitarian Month, targets VND500 billion in aid
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Red Cross Society on April 29 launched the 2026 Humanitarian Month, aiming to mobilise VND500 billion (around US$19 million) to support vulnerable groups and expand nationwide humanitarian efforts.
The national launching ceremony themed “80 years – A humanitarian journey for the community” was held in Hanoi and connected online to 34 provinces and cities nationwide.
Over the past five years, Humanitarian Month campaigns have mobilised more than VND3 trillion, assisting over 6.6 million people. Beyond the figures, organisers said the initiative has helped strengthen social trust and spread a spirit of compassion across communities.
This year, in addition to the fundraising target, the programme aims to collect 80,000 units of blood and ensure that all communes and wards nationwide organise practical and effective humanitarian activities. The Vietnam Red Cross Society pledged that all contributions would be managed transparently and used efficiently for the intended beneficiaries.
At the ceremony, Paht Tanattanwin, deputy head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross based Bangkok, praised Vietnam’s commitment to humanitarian work and its efforts to translate humanitarian values into concrete actions that benefit millions of people.
He noted that in recent years, the Vietnam Red Cross Society has demonstrated a proactive and innovative approach through large-scale campaigns, effective resource mobilisation and the application of digital transformation, while also contributing actively to the international humanitarian movement.
Speaking at the event, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai stressed that humanitarian work should be recognised not only as social assistance but as a key pillar of a modern social welfare system, contributing to social stability, public trust and national soft power.
She called on the Vietnam Red Cross Society to enhance strategic planning, improve professionalism, innovate resource mobilisation, strengthen digital transformation and expand international cooperation in humanitarian activities.
As part of the launch, voluntary blood donation and first-aid training activities were held. A humanitarian market was also organised, providing 500 gift packages worth VND1 million each, including cash and vouchers, to disadvantaged families.
During the event, organisations and local Red Cross chapters pledged a total of VND620 billion in support of the 2026 Humanitarian Month campaign.
