May Day parade in Hanoi marks International Workers' Day 2026

VOV.VN - Around 1,000 workers and trade union members joined a parade in Hanoi on April 28 to celebrate the 140th anniversary of International Workers’ Day.

Organised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), the event is a key highlight in this year’s May Day activities, aimed at honouring the contributions of workers to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

The parade started at 8 a.m. from Tran Nhan Tong - Tran Binh Trong streets to the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Cultural Palace.

Participants included outstanding workers from various sectors, showcasing unity, discipline and a spirit of innovation in the country’s workforce.

Addressing the event, Thai Thu Xuong, standing vice chairwoman of the VGCL, noted that over the past 140 years, International Workers’ Day has become a symbol of the global labour movement, providing a chance to honour the value of labour and the strength of the working class in the development of humanity.

As part of the celebrations, authorities also honoured exemplary grassroots trade union leaders who have actively engaged in dialogue with employers and negotiated collective labour agreements with benefits exceeding legal requirements.

Through the event, the VGCL expects to spread the message of building a modern and strong working class, and affirm the VGCL’s role in caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its members and workers.
