Vietnam Airlines operates free Tet flights for disadvantaged workers
VOV.VN - National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on February 12 operated the first free flight bringing workers facing difficult circumstances in southern provinces back to their hometowns in the northern and central regions for the Lunar New Year (Tet).
The flights, part of the “Trade Union Flight-Spring 2026” programme jointly organised by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and Vietnam Airlines, aim to bring union members and their families home to enjoy the festive season.
Addressing the farewell ceremony held at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on February 12, Phan Van Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, stressed the programme helps to support many migrant workers who have been unable to return home for Tet for years due to financial difficulties.
This year the programme organises special flights with over 1,050 union members and workers departing from Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh back to provinces and cities in the northern and central regions.
Specifically on February 12, more than 550 workers boarded three flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vinh, and Hue.
To ensure a smooth and welcoming journey, Vietnam Airlines arranged dedicated check-in counters, streamlined reception procedures and a spring-themed waiting area, helping passengers experience a warm and festive Tet atmosphere.
Pham Ngoc Trieu, a worker at Vietnam Food Technology Corporation (Vifon), expressed his gratitude for receiving support to return home for Tet celebration, encouraging workers much after hard-working years.
He expressed hope that the programme would continue and reach even more workers living far from their hometowns.
