Vietnam confirms 171 daily COVID-19 cases, 55th fatality
VOV.VN - The nation registered 53 additional COVID-19 infections between midday and six p.m. on June 8, boosting the daily tally to 171, with the majority of cases detected in the current hotspots of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, and Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Ministry of Health.
165 out of the 171 local cases were detected in isolation or lockdown areas. All of the cases in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh are closely linked with existing clusters previously found in industrial parks.
Most cases in Ho Chi Minh City are linked to a Christian congregation which caused a COVID-19 cluster to emerge from Go Vap district three weeks ago, while those in other localities came into contact with confirmed patients.
At present, the nation has recorded 9,158 infections, including 7,573 local infections and 1,585 imported ones.
Following the tally documented in the afternoon, Ho Chi Minh City has surpassed Hanoi to become the locality with the third highest number of local infections during the country’s latest COVID-19 wave with 461 cases.
Notably, the overall recoveries rose to 3,549 after a further 40 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospital after making a successful recovery from the disease.
The same day also saw the nation record two COVID-19 fatalities, bringing the overall death toll to 55, including one at midday and another in the afternoon.
The latest deceased patient was an 88-year-old woman from the northern province of Bac Giang who had been suffering from hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, and senility.
The patient passed away on June 7, with a diagnosis of severe pneumonia caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus, ARDS, septic shock, multi-organ failure, heart failure, hypertension, type two diabetes, and senility.
This marks the 20th fatality relating to COVID-19 during the current wave of community infections.
