Severe rockslide in Quang Tri paralyses North-South rail service
VOV.VN - A severe rockslide occurred at section km458+200 near Lac Son railway station in Tuyen Hoa commune, Quang Tri province, on September 4, completely blocking the North-South railway line.

Local authorities confirmed that at around 6:10a.m., three large boulders, each ranging from 1.5 to 3 cubic meters, suddenly rolled down from the mountain peak, crashing violently and causing significant damage to a segment of the railway track, which was displaced. Fortunately, no trains were passing through the area at the time of the incident.
Following the rockslide, all trains on the route were immediately notified to stop at nearby stations to ensure safety.
Quang Binh Railway Joint Stock Company promptly mobilised forces and equipment to urgently address the issue, striving to reopen the line as soon as possible.
The Lac Son railway section is known for its challenging terrain, with steep cliffs on one side and deep rivers on the other, featuring sharp curves. This area is prone to frequent rockfalls that pose serious threats to train safety.
This is not the first time the North-South railway has been paralysed due to severe rockslides. Earlier incidents occurred in April and May 2024 at the Bai Gio Tunnel (Khanh Hoa) and Chi Thanh Tunnel (Phu Yen), causing total traffic disruption.
These rockslides result in significant repair costs and disrupt the transport of goods and passengers. Thousands of passengers have had to switch to alternative transportation means, impacting their journeys and causing substantial economic losses.
