North-South rail line resumes after 10-day closure due to tunnel landslides
VOV.VN - North-South passenger and freight trains have been allowed to run again through Chi Thanh tunnel in the southcentral province of Phu Yen after landslides occurred inside the tunnel, disrupting North-South rail service 10 days ago.
A technical train started a test run at 11:45 a.m. on May 31 before a passenger train ran through the tunnel at a speed of 5km per hour to continue the technical inspection at 2:30 p.m.
A 23-car long, 940-tonne freight train also kept on passing through the tunnel.
On May 21, around 200m3 of rocks and soil impeded the track as a consequence of landslides hitting the Chi Thanh tunnel in Phu Yen, paralyzing the North-South rail service passing through the tunnel.
Hundreds of workers, along with various vehicles, devices, and other specialised means, were subsequently dispatched to the site in order to deal with the incident.
Earlier landslides occurred inside Bai Gio rail tunnel in Khanh Hoa province on April 12 - 13, causing disruption to the North-South rail service for roughly 10 days.
