Freight train derails, North-South railway paralyzed

VOV.VN - A freight train pulling 20 cars with a total weight of 840.7 tonnes derailed at Hai Van Nam station of Da Nang city, making the North-South railway paralyzed.

The derailment occurred at 09:10p.m. on November 1, according to local authorities.

When the three cars derailed, the train was entering track 1 at Hai Van Nam station, confirmed a representative from the Vietnam Railway Authority.

The wheels of these three cars slipped off the tracks, with containers from two cars toppling onto track 2, while the remaining container tilted to the left in the direction of the train’s movement, he said.

At that time, passenger train SE7 was getting into the Hai Van railway area heading north to south but was unable to proceed due to the derailment.

Shortly afterward, passengers were transferred to a 45-seater bus for transportation to Da Nang, where they could continue their journey southward.

The railway management unit, railway traffic police, and railway safety management mobilized equipment and personnel to the scene to carry out rescue and recovery operations.

Currently, the railway line through the Hai Van Pass remains blocked, and rescue teams have deployed machinery and equipment to address the incident.

Vietnam has a single railway line connecting the North and South. Every day, there are 24 passenger trains on this North-South route, excluding freight trains. Each incident, such as a train derailment, paralyzes passenger transportation along this critical route.
