More remains of Vietnamese martyrs repatriated from Laos

VOV.VN - A ceremony was held on May 30 in the southern Laotian province of Attapeu to hand over and repatriate the remains of eight Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in the neighbouring country.

Attending the ceremony was Nguyen Van Trung, Vietnamese Consul General in Pakse city, alongside leaders and representatives of relevant agencies in the aforementioned provinces.

Those in attendance at the event included leaders of the Special Working Committee of the Laotian Government; representatives of Attapeu province; the Steering Committee 515 of Kon Tum province; and the Special Working Committee of Champasak, Sekong, and Attapeu provinces.

Six out of eighth remains of national martyrs handed back this time were found in Attapeu province, two remains were found in Champasak province, whilst one set of remains was identified as Martyr Doan Thanh Long of Dien Ban district in Quang Nam province.

Participants at the event offered incense and flowers in tribute to the martyrs who had devoted their lives to the noble international spirit.

The remains are to due be laid to rest at the martyrs' cemetery in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum. 

Searching and gathering the remains of martyrs is viewed as an activity of sacred significance which demonstrates the respect and gratitude felt towards the great contributions of heroes and martyrs.

This meets the wishes of relatives, families of martyrs, and people throughout the nation, thereby contributing to educating the revolutionary and patriotic traditions of the people of both Vietnam and Laos.
