Progress made in Vietnam-Laos repatriation of wartime remains

VOV.VN - The Special Working Committees of the Vietnamese and Lao governments convened their 30th meeting on July 2 to review joint efforts in the search and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Laos during wartime.

At the meeting, the two sides assessed the outcomes achieved since the 29th meeting, noting that despite increasingly difficult conditions in locating burial sites, Vietnamese search and recovery teams managed to repatriate 172 sets of remains during the 2024–2025 dry season.

Looking ahead, both sides agreed to continue close coordination in the search, repatriation, and reburial work. They also stressed the importance of raising public awareness and encouraging citizens in both countries to provide information related to the fallen Vietnamese soldiers and experts.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the time-honoured solidarity and combat alliance between the armies and peoples of Vietnam and Laos, thereby further deepening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples.

The meeting concluded with the signing of minutes and the handover of Vietnam’s 2025 financial assistance to the Lao Special Working Committee.
