Nha Trang apartment fire kills two local residents

VOV.VN - A fire broke out in a high-rise apartment building in Nam Nha Trang ward, Khanh Hoa province, on February 12, killing two people, local officials confirmed.

According to initial reports, the bodies of a man and a woman were discovered in a bedroom of the affected unit. Their identities have not yet been released. Many belongings inside the apartment were destroyed in the blaze.

The fire erupted at around 4 p.m. in a more than 50-square-meter apartment on the 16th floor of Tower C at the PH residential complex. Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the balcony and bedroom window, prompting residents to evacuate via stairways.

Upon receiving the report, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Fire Prevention and Rescue Police deployed 36 firefighters, two ladder trucks and three fire engines to the scene. Firefighters used high-pressure hoses to spray water along the building’s exterior wall to contain the flames, while others entered the building to carry out firefighting and rescue operations.

The fire was fully extinguished at approximately 5:10 p.m., authorities said.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated in the bedroom of the apartment. The presence of flammable materials such as mattresses, clothing and household items is believed to have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.

Fire crews continued cooling operations after the blaze was put out to prevent reignition and ensure safety. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
