21 nuns and disabled children escape fire at Bac Ninh charity home

VOV.VN - Twenty-one nuns and children with disabilities were safely evacuated after a fire broke out at Huong La Charity Home in Luong Tai commune, Bac Ninh province, northern Vietnam, on February 10.

The fire started at around 7:30 a.m., originating from a candle-making storage area at the facility before spreading to a nearby physical therapy building, according to leaders of Luong Tai commune.

The charity home cares for 42 children with disabilities, supported by 15 nuns. However, only 13 nuns and eight children were present at the facility when the fire occurred. Others had returned home for the Lunar New Year holiday or were attending school.

Upon discovering the fire, the nuns quickly evacuated all children and those on site to a safe area. No injuries or casualties were reported, as the residential area for the children is located separately from the affected buildings.

Firefighters from the Bac Ninh Provincial Fire Prevention and Rescue Police were promptly dispatched to the scene, deploying vehicles and personnel to contain the blaze. The fire was brought under control shortly after, preventing it from spreading to adjacent areas.

The incident destroyed approximately 80 square metres of the candle storage facility and the physical therapy area. Authorities are currently assessing property damage and investigating the cause of the fire.
