Fire at electronics shopping centre in Dong Nai leaves mother and child dead
VOV.VN - A fire broke out early on January 22 at Bien electronics shopping centre in Long Khanh Ward, Dong Nai province, Vietnam’s central highlands, killing a 26-year-old woman and her one-year-old son.
According to initial information, the blaze erupted at around 5 a.m. Firefighting and rescue forces of the Dong Nai provincial police were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters forced entry into the building and used on-site equipment to contain the flames. As the premises housed electrical appliances, a large number of flammable materials caused the fire to spread rapidly.
Firefighters coordinated efforts to extinguish the blaze, carry out rescue operations and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residential buildings.
By 6:50 a.m., the fire had been fully put out. However, the building, which has a ground floor and a mezzanine level, suffered extensive damage. Of its total floor area of about 1,400 square metres, roughly 700 square metres were destroyed.
During the incident, rescue forces brought three people out of the building. However, the woman and her son were confirmed dead, while the husband suffered severe respiratory distress and was taken to hospital for emergency treatment.
Tang Quoc Lap, Chairman of the Long Khanh Ward People’s Committee, said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
