Nearly 20 domestic flights canceled due to Typhoon Kajiki
VOV.VN - Domestic airlines have announced the cancellation of nearly 20 flights on August 24 and 25 to ensure aviation safety amid the impact of Typhoon Kajiki that is forecast to make landfall on August 25.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines stated that flights to and from Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Hue airports will be adjusted or canceled. Budget airline Vietjet Air also reported that some flights to and from Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, and Hue and other airports in the affected regions may need schedule changes.
Airlines advise passengers to check flight schedules and weather conditions before traveling, follow safety instructions, particularly keeping seat belts fastened when necessary to reduce risks during turbulence, and monitor flight information via airline websites, mobile apps, or at the airport for assistance.
A Vietjet representative noted that bad weather is an unavoidable circumstance that incurs extra costs and fuel consumption, but passenger safety remains the top priority.
Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) issued an urgent directive requiring affected airports to implement storm preparedness plans, maintain 24/7 operations, and be ready to respond to any emergencies.
Airports directly affected include Tho Xuan, Vinh, Dong Hoi, and Phu Bai, while others such as Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Van Don, Da Nang, Chu Lai, and Pleiku have been instructed to closely monitor the situation and be prepared for any sudden changes in the storm’s path.
Packing winds of more than 100kph, with gusts up to 150kph, Typhoon Kajiki, the fifth of its kind to hit the East Sea, is expected to slam into the central coast of Vietnam on August 25.
The severity of Typhoon Kajiki is said to be no less than that of Typhoon Yagi in 2024 in terms of wind strength. Typhoon Yagi pounded Vietnam in September 2024, leaving more than 300 people dead, missing, or injured, and causing an estimated loss of approximately US$3.3 billion.
