Mozambique, Vietnam boost education, human resource cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin hosted a meeting on October 22 in Maputo with Mozambican students heading to Vietnam for the 2026-2027 academic year under an intergovernmental higher education agreement.
The event was attended by Carla Caomba, Director General of the Mozambique Scholarship Institute.
Congratulating the 15 outstanding scholarship recipients, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin emphasized that the program represents both an educational initiative and a strategic investment in the future of Mozambique's youth, serving as a vivid reflection of enduring bilateral friendship.
She noted that this cohort is the first to benefit from a new milestone in bilateral ties following a higher education cooperation agreement signed in January 2026, which raised the annual scholarship quota from 10 to 15.
Introducing Vietnam's history, culture, hospitality, and socioeconomic progress, the ambassador encouraged the students to proactively integrate, learn about local culture, and abide by Vietnamese laws and school regulations, expressing hope that they will serve as bridges connecting the two nations.
For her part, Director General Carla Caomba thanked the embassy for its support throughout the selection process. She said that as Mozambique accelerates its high-quality workforce development strategy, the educational partnership with Vietnam offers practical support in training young talent for key sectors, including industry, agriculture, information technology, and healthcare.
Caomba expressed confidence that the students will work hard and maintain strict discipline to acquire knowledge and technology in Vietnam, equipping themselves with a solid foundation to contribute to national development upon their return, while preserving traditional bilateral ties.
During the event, Ambassador Thin directly answered students' questions regarding academic programs and living conditions in Vietnam, sharing practical tips to help them adapt quickly. The students were also treated to traditional Vietnamese food and drinks, including pho (noodle soup), lemon tea, coffee, and peanut candy.
The intergovernmental agreement signed in January 2026 specifies the educational provisions of the 2007 bilateral agreement on educational and cultural cooperation. The document covers joint teaching projects, research, academic exchanges, and student mobility, meeting the expanding needs and positive development of Vietnam-Mozambique relations.
