Vietnam, Mozambique sign new agreement on higher education cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin and Mozambican Minister of Education and Culture Samaria Tovela signed an agreement between the two governments on cooperation in higher education in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, on January 29.
The agreement aims to concretise areas of education cooperation outlined in the education and culture cooperation agreement signed by the two governments in 2007, while responding to increasingly extensive cooperation needs. It is expected to contribute to promoting the traditional friendship and broad-based cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique.
Under the agreement, the two sides will expand various forms of cooperation, including teaching, scientific research, academic exchanges, human resource training, student exchanges and other related fields. Notably, the two countries agreed to grant each other 15 scholarships annually for student exchanges.
Minister Samaria Tovela welcomed the establishment of the new cooperation framework, saying it was in line with the practical needs of both sides. She expressed confidence that it would help promote concrete and effective cooperation activities in the coming period, particularly exchanges of Mozambican students to Vietnam in priority fields for Mozambique where Vietnam has strengths, such as agriculture, agricultural processing, aquaculture, medicine, engineering, and science and technology.
For her part, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin thanked relevant agencies of both countries for their close coordination and efforts in preparing for the signing of the agreement. She stressed that education cooperation has been one of the highlights of bilateral relations, reflected in the effective support provided by Vietnamese education experts in Mozambique in earlier periods, as well as the student exchange scholarship programme maintained continuously over many years.
The ambassador described the agreement as a vivid demonstration of the commitment of the two Parties and Governments to further deepen traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement is expected to bring practical benefits to its beneficiaries, particularly students from both countries, thereby contributing to the training of high-quality human resources for Mozambique’s priority development sectors. The signing and implementation of the agreement will further strengthen higher education cooperation, helping elevate Vietnam-Mozambique relations to a new level.
