Localities urged to brace for Typhoon Saola
VOV.VN - The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has requested that localities actively respond to the impending arrival of Typhoon Saola, the third to enter the East Sea this year, during the National Day holiday on September 2.
According to information given by the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at of 7 a.m. on August 31, Typhoon Saola was continuing to move over the northeastern waters of the North East Sea and is located about 470km to the Southeast of Hong Kong (China), with the strongest winds near the storm’s eye reaching between 167km and 201km
Over the next 72 to 120 hours, the storm is set to track a southwest direction, at speeds of five km per hour with the intensity likely to reduce gradually.
Due to the impact of the storm, there will be strong winds and rough seas hitting the North East Sea area, with sea waves reaching between four metres and six metres in height.
Furthermore, there will be heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms in the provinces in the Central Highlands, the southern, and southcentral region from August 31 to September 2.
Localities are therefore required to regularly closely monitor storm developments, notify fishing vessels operating at sea about the storm’s path to ensure they seek shelter, while rescue forces are also requested to be ready to proactively respond to the impact of the storm.
