Local infection tally up by 36 over six hours
VOV.VN - The number of domestically-transmitted COVID-19 cases in Vietnam has amounted to 3,108, with 36 new cases confirmed over six hours to midday May 19, according to the Ministry of Health.
The northern provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang remain the nation’s biggest coronavirus hotspots, with ten active cases detected in each locality.
In addition, other fresh cases were recorded in Hanoi (9), Hai Duong (3), K Hospital’s Tan Trieu facility (1), Dien Bien (1), Thai Binh (1), and Vinh Phuc (1).
Of the new cases, 29 were found in isolation facilities and 9 in lockdown areas, and they are mostly F1 contracts connected to previously confirmed patients.
As many as 1,538 COVID-19 patients were registered in the country since it was hit by the latest COVID-19 wave in late April.
The pandemic has reported across 28 provinces and cities nationwide, with more than 1,530 community infections recorded. May 18 alone saw the nation document a total of 152 local transmissions.
Earlier in the morning, the Ministry of Health also confirmed a further 30 active domestic infections, including 16 detected in current Bac Ninh hotspot.
Meanwhile, 29 samples in Hanoi, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc and Hai Phong, taken by the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for genetic sequencing to identify the specific variant of the virus, indicated that they are carrying the B.1.617.2 strain originating from India.
Additionally, two samples taken from Hai Duong have said to be variant B.1.1.7 from the UK.
