Vietnam confirms 30 further local transmissions, with 16 detected in Bac Ninh
VOV.VN - An additional 30 new local infections, with all in quarantine and lockdown areas, and one imported case from Belgium were confirmed by the Health Ministry on May 19 morning.
Among the new cases found in northern provinces, 16 were reported in Bac Ninh, 10 in Bac Giang, 3 in Lang Son and 1 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The latest cases found in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, the nation’s largest COVID-19 hotbeds are mostly linked to infected patients in isolation areas or the cluster of infections at industrial parks.
The imported case is a Belgian expert who was immediately put in quarantine after entering Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City.
With the latest detection, Vietnam has so far recorded 3,072 local infections, and 1,471 imported ones.
Since the latest wave of COVID-19 recurred three weeks ago, 1,502 cases have been recorded in 28 cities and provinces throughout the nation, with Bac Giang province registering the highest number of active cases at 517, trailed by Bac Ninh at 322.
A total of 2,687 coronavirus patients have fully recovered from the virus, and 89 cases receiving treatment have tested negative for the coronavirus at least one time or more.
As of May 19, as many as 1,011,395 frontline medical workers and members of the community-based anti-COVID-19 groups received COVID-19 vaccine shots, including a total of 28,852 vaccinated with full two doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile the northern provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh, the country’s two biggest coronavirus hotspots, have imposed social distancing measures in several areas to slow the spread of the pandemic.
Elsewhere Ho Chi Minh City has conducted mass testing among workers and prepared for the worst-case scenario as northern industrial zones have seen the growing number of infections in recent times.
Since the new wave of COVID-19 broke out in the country in late April, more than 410 workers in industrial zones across eight cities and provinces have contracted the virus, including over 330 at four parks of northern Bac Giang province.
The national COVID-19 tally now stands at 4,543, with 2,687 recoveries and 37 deaths.
